China's Telecom Market

Since the first half of 2007, China's communications industry has maintained stable and sound development. In the past few years, China's Ministry of Information Industry established policies in the spirit of accomplishing the goal of becoming a great power in telecom industry. Linux OS- Future of Smartphones

Linux is expected to be the fastest growing smartphone OS in coming 5 years, predicts ABI Research. The Mobile Linux study forecasts that by 2012, 31% of smartphone market will be using Linux-based OS.

As ABI Research points out, powerful phone manufacturers like Motorola has already gained some success with Linux-based phones. Also Nokia is openly flirting with Linux development and inviting Linux programmers to work on mobile applications. Japan’s NTT DoCoMo, has also been supporting Linux development.

Vodafone Set For Launch in India

Vodafone will launch its brand and services in India by October. In the offering are low-cost handsets and international services such as Vodafone Passport, Vodafone Simply and Vodafone live! Vodafone Passport enables customers going abroad to talk at domestic rates. They pay a one-off connection fee and then shell out standard Indian rates.

The company may also introduce a very competitive price plan and customised handsets for Indian customers.
The telecom player is slated to offer handsets at Rs 666. The exclusive handsets will be designed to meet the needs of Vodafone’s customers in terms of price, specification and user experience.

CNBC Consumer Award for BSNL

BSNL has bagged the 'CNBC Awaaz Consumer Awards 2007' award for the most preferred landline service provider and broadband connection provider. The company has a fixed line subscriber base of over 4.72 crore and over 17 lakh in wireless fixed phones in urban and 38.42 lakh in rural areas.

India’s CDMA2000 Subscriber Base Crossed 50 Million

The CDMA Development Group (CDG) on Sunday announced that India's CDMA2000 subscriber base has surpassed 50 million fixed and mobile device users. Subscriber growth reached this milestone just in 4 years, while it took GSM more than 10 years to reach the same number.

The CDG attributes this rapid growth in the region to the economic delivery of differentiated VAS, network expansion into the rural areas of India and the growing availability of very low-end (VLE) devices.
