Linux OS- Future of Smartphones

Linux is expected to be the fastest growing smartphone OS in coming 5 years, predicts ABI Research. The Mobile Linux study forecasts that by 2012, 31% of smartphone market will be using Linux-based OS.

As ABI Research points out, powerful phone manufacturers like Motorola has already gained some success with Linux-based phones. Also Nokia is openly flirting with Linux development and inviting Linux programmers to work on mobile applications. Japan’s NTT DoCoMo, has also been supporting Linux development.
