Mobile users in Pakistan panicked when a prankster sent a message claiming that 20 people already died due to some sort of mobile virus.
The rumor - kind of based on the concept of the movie "The Ring," where people die a week after watching a video - was so effective that some mosques in the country's biggest city, Karachi, repeated the message to their followers.
Cellular operators are trying to calm down subscribers by telling them that the rumors "are completely baseless" and "do not make any sense in technological terms."
The actual event might be trivial but if you look deeper you will see mobile marketing at work. And for mobile companies - profit!

If you are unhappy about carrying multiple chargers for your Sony Ericsson handset, Blackberry e-mail device, mini video player and an Apple iPod, Try All-in-one FED charger. This could replace all your chargers for one. Just carry a FED device and when your gadgets’ battery has run dry just plug it into a wall and its six connectors will repower just about any mobile phone and gadget you would care to mention.
It comes with six charging options — two Nokia connectors, two Samsung, one Sony Ericsson and one USB connector. The charger costs a mere $23.
Wish they could come up with a single remote as well for keyless car entry, DVD player, DTH and/or that settop-box on the TV.
