500 Million Subscribers by 2010

Indian telecom operators are rushing to rural areas to add new wireless subscribers. The Indian government aims to have 500 million telephone subscribers by 2010.

"We are working on the assumption that 6million -7 million new customer additions is sustainable. This is the rate to reach our target of 500 million subscribers," Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's Nripendra Misra said.
