National Roaming Charges to Fall in India

India's Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has ordered a major cut in internal roaming charges for customers who travel across India between different operator licensed areas or circles.

The roaming tariff reduction is applicable for all mobile customers, prepaid and postpaid, and applicable across all types of tariff plans offered by both GSM and CDMA Mobile operators. In addition to lowering voice call costs, receiving SMS is free while roaming.

India's mobile operators can not charge any type of fixed or recurring charges for accessing roaming facility. Tariff Order would result in reduction of roaming tariffs to the extent of 22% to 56% compared with the current market rates.
