Mobile Prank!

Mobile users in Pakistan panicked when a prankster sent a message claiming that 20 people already died due to some sort of mobile virus.

The rumor - kind of based on the concept of the movie "The Ring," where people die a week after watching a video - was so effective that some mosques in the country's biggest city, Karachi, repeated the message to their followers.

Cellular operators are trying to calm down subscribers by telling them that the rumors "are completely baseless" and "do not make any sense in technological terms."
The actual event might be trivial but if you look deeper you will see mobile marketing at work. And for mobile companies - profit!
